308 I (2007-2013): the RNEG
On the first generation of the 308, the multimedia system is called RNEG. Its screen is generally not a touchscreen: it is operated using the controls on the dashboard. No original CarPlay or Android Auto.
308 II (2013-2016): the SMEG
With the second generation, the touchscreen appears in the center of the dashboard. The system is called SMEG, then SMEG+ depending on the model year. Originally, it does not offer wireless CarPlay or Android Auto.
308 II (2013-2021, depending on trim): the MRN
MRN is a designation you will encounter on CarPlay box datasheets. It corresponds to certain 308 II screens, depending on the trim level, throughout the model's production run. It looks like the SMEG: it is the most difficult case to identify, and the one for which confirmation before ordering is most useful.
308 II (2017-2021): the NAC
On the latest model years, the system is called NAC. If your NAC already offers CarPlay with a USB cable, a box allows you to switch to wireless and keep your phone in your pocket.
How to recognize RNEG, SMEG, MRN, or NAC on your 308
Three clues, from the simplest to the most reliable.
1. The vehicle year
This is the first filter, for guidance only: 2007-2013, RNEG; 2013-2016, SMEG or MRN; 2017-2021, NAC or MRN. The year alone is not enough for the 308 II, since SMEG, MRN, and NAC overlap depending on the trim.
2. The screen
If the screen does not react to touch, you are generally using an RNEG (308 I). If the screen is a touchscreen, you are using a 308 II: SMEG, MRN, or NAC. This clue does not distinguish between the three 308 II systems.
3. Confirmation via WhatsApp
This is the most reliable method. Peugeot 308 CarPlay box or screen: the right product for each system

308 I with RNEG: box or screen
Two options. The RNEG box (€469) keeps the original car radio and the dashboard's appearance. The 308 2007-2015 CarPlay screen (€219) replaces the original unit with an Android touchscreen. On this generation, the screen is often the most logical choice: it costs less and provides a touchscreen.
308 II with SMEG: the €239 box
The 308 SMEG CarPlay box plugs in behind the original touchscreen. You keep your screen, menus, and settings, and gain wireless CarPlay and Android Auto. Nothing changes in the cabin.
308 II with MRN: the €239 box
The same principle applies to the 308 MRN CarPlay box, designed for 308 IIs from 2013 to 2021 equipped with this system. Since the MRN is easily confused with the SMEG, have your system confirmed on WhatsApp before ordering.
308 II with NAC: the €379 box
The 308 NAC CarPlay box is for 308s from 2017 to 2021. It retains the NAC screen and interface, and adds wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, without a USB cable.
The 308 2013-2021 CarPlay screen: the alternative for 308 II
If you prefer to replace the original screen, the Peugeot 308 2013-2021 CarPlay screen (€219) is for the 308 II. It generally retains the reversing camera, steering wheel controls, radio, Bluetooth, and climate display depending on the model. Check your version on the product page or with the selector.

In summary: on 308 II (SMEG, MRN, NAC), the box is the most discreet solution. On 308 I (RNEG), the screen provides touch functionality and costs less than the box.
What you keep after installation
With a box, you lose nothing: the original screen and functions (radio, Bluetooth, reversing camera, steering wheel controls, vehicle settings) remain in place. CarPlay and Android Auto are added on top.
With a screen, the reversing camera, steering wheel controls, radio, and Bluetooth are generally retained, and the climate control remains displayed on the screen depending on the model. If your 308 does not have a camera, the universal reversing camera (€39) can be added to the order. For clearer calls, the wired microphone (€18.90) completes the set.
